Recycle Old Crayons
If you have children or grandchildren, chances are you have thousands of broken crayons somewhere in your house. I keep mine in several large butter bowls. My daughters and grandchildren always pick through the crayons for the “newest” looking ones. Then I found this great recycling craft.
All you need is old crayons, muffin pan and foil.
Step 1 Peel all of the paper from the used crayons.
Step 2 Line your muffin pans with foil.
Step 3 Heat your oven to 200 degrees.
Step 4 Place a few broken pieces of crayons in the foil lined muffin pans.Be careful not to use too many as they may boil over and make a big mess.
Step 5 Bake for 5 to 8 minutes watching carefully. When the old crayons are good and melted, they are done.
Step 6 Let them cool and use them as you would a new crayon. They will have a round shape to them.
VARIATIONS:
1. If you choose, you can use a cookie sheet, place the foil over the whole cookie sheet. If you are using a cookie sheet, you will need tin cookie cutters wrapped with foil. Place your cookie cutters on the foiled cookie sheet and drop a few pieces of crayons inside the cookie cutter mold. These make fun shapes but take more practice to get the hang of them (to get the right thickness).
2. Use a couple of different colors and you have a fun multi-colored crayon.
