Cotton Balls
Yellow or Gold Pipe Cleaner
Small Doilies (optional)
Coffee Filter (optional)
Tissue Paper (optional)
Small Styrofoam Ball
Black Pen

DIRECTIONS: (Use your best judgment for the sizes of the shapes compared to the size spoon you use)

ANGEL
1. Paint the spoon flesh tone or brown and leave to dry (overnight is best).

2. WINGS ~ You can make the wings by cutting out wing shapes from tissue paper and gluing them to the handle. You can make the wings from a doily by gathering the doily in the center and  gluing them to the handle. You can also use coffee filters the same way as the doilies. Finally, you can cut wings from your craft foam and glue them onto your handle. I like the wings to be right under the spoon but you can put them where ever it looks right for you.

3. Add two wiggle eyes.

4. Cut yarn (whatever color you want the hair to be) the length you want and glue it to the back of the spoon. You can have some come over the front if you want bangs. Feel free to braid the yarn into pig-tails or a long braid. You can also leave it long and straight. Use a comb to fray the yarn making the hair look fuller and even a little messy.

5.Take your pipe cleaner and make a small circle at one end. Leave about 1/2 inch more pipe cleaner before cutting and bend it. Your pipe cleaner should be a circle with a handle. Glue the 1/2 inch straight piece to the “hair” of your angel. This makes your halo.

6. Finally, draw a nose, a mouth and add your special touches if you want (eye lashes, eyebrows, ears, etc.).

SANTA CLAUSE
1. Paint your spoon Pink and the handle Red.  Set aside to dry (overnight is best).

2. Cut out an oval for his nose out of pink craft foam. Glue the nose to the center of the spoon.

3. Glue two wiggle eyes above the oval.

4. Cut a red Santa hat out of the red craft foam. Glue this to the top of the spoon. Glue a small cotton ball to the end of the hat.

5. Draw on a mouth and add your special touches if you want (eye lashes, etc.).

6. Finally, use your cotton balls to give Santa a beard.

* If you want, you can draw a black belt about midway down the spoon handle. Also you can paint the handle tip black for the boots.

SNOWMAN
1. Paint your spoon white and set aside to dry (overnight is best).

2. Cut a hat out of the craft foam. Glue this to the top of the spoon. Glue a few short frayed pieces of yarn to the end of the hat.

3. Glue two wiggle eyes above the oval.

4. Using your black pen, draw on a mouth and add your special touches if you want (eye lashes, details to the hat, etc.). You can cut an orange “carrot” from craft foam and glue it into place if you want.

5. Take a small (slightly larger than your spoon) Styrofoam ball and drill a hole from the top to the bottom. Make the hole slightly smaller than the thickness of your spoon handle. Paint a thin coat of glue around the top of the spoon handle. Carefully push the spoon handle through the hole. It may take some practice but try not to make the ball loose. The tighter it fits the better.

6. Finally, decorate the snowman body (the Styrofoam ball) using craft foam, scraps of material, buttons, or whatever you have handy.

ELF
1. Paint your spoon pink and your handle green. Set aside to dry (overnight is best).

2. Cut out some pointy ears from your pink craft foam. Glue them to your spoon.

3. Using your yarn, cut 3 to 4 – 1 inch pieces of yarn. Using a comb (or your fingers) comb the yarn to make it frayed. Glue the frayed yarn to the back of the spoon, leaving some sticking up from the top to give the elf bangs (red yarn looks great for this).

4. Cut out a green triangle and a green rectangle from your craft foam. Glue the rectangle to the bottom of your triangle and then glue the “hat” to the top of your spoon. Be sure to leave some of the “hair” peeking out.

5. Glue two wiggle eyes onto the front of your spoon.

6. Using your black pen, draw on a mouth and add your special touches if you want (eye lashes, details to the ears, etc.).

VARIATIONS AND TIPS:
* Be creative and using the steps above, make a reindeer, Nativity scene, etc.

* To display them, you can use a vase, a box (just poke a hole in the box for each spoon), or anything you have lying around that will hold the spoons.

* You can also paint your spoon a solid color and once they are dry, draw poinsettia flowers, holly, or Christmas scenes on them. Cut shapes out or use colored permanent markers if you are good at drawing scenes. Display your “flowers” in a vase (be sure to make the back of the spoon look as good as the front if both sides will be showing.
