Holiday Decorative Baskets
We’ve all seen the beautiful Holiday Baskets in the stores. How can you get one like them for your house? Read onto find out.
Things Needed:
A basket (any size but think about where you are going to put it when choosing one)
Things for in the basket (ideas are listed in the directions)
Ribbon
Aleen’s Tacky Glue
Quilter’s Polyester Batting (optional)
Step 1 Choose your basket and a wide ribbon that matches the color of the room it will be displayed. I like to use wide ribbon with wire in it so any design or bow will hold their shape.
Step 2 Take your ribbon and wrap it loosely around your basket 2 times. This will give you enough ribbon for a bow.
Step 3 Now take your cut ribbon and wrap it around your basket. You can twist it as you go or leave it flat. Tie it and glue a place in the back as well as the “knot” you just tied in the front of your basket.
Step 4 Once the glue is dry, Tie your bow and fluff it (if your using wire ribbon). To fluff it, you just shape the bow with your fingers until it is shaped the way you want it to look.
Step 5 Take your basket and place some Quilter’s polyester batting in the bottom. For this you do not need to glue it in the basket unless you plan to give it as a gift or do not plan to change your basket.
Step 6 Place your biggest item in first. If you want a stuffed bear to be in your basket and it’s big, place it in the center or to one side.
Step 7 I like to add something that helps the basket freshen a room. If it’s a Christmas basket, you can add some cinnamon sticks or cinnamon scented pine cones. You could sprinkle some potpourri in the bottom of the basket (around the bear or under the bear).
Step 8 Now add some other things to your basket. Maybe the bear basket would look great with a baby blanket draped over the bears arm.
Step 9 Next, add a string of lights to the bottom of the basket. Put the lights around the inside edge of the basket. It’s o.k. if you have more than one row of lights.
Step 10 For a holiday basket, fill it with smaller stuffed animals (like other woodland creatures), some tinsel, some Christmas bulbs, pine cones, etc. Keep to two or three colors. It’s best to use two main and one for accents.
Step 11 If it is for a baby shower, add some diapers, outfits, wipes, bibs, a rattle, etc. Things an expectant mother needs.
Step 12 If it is for a High School Graduation, fill it with gas gift cards, cards with money in it, a graduation devotional book, some Ramen Noodles, boxes of macaroni and cheese, Pizza coupons, Fast food coupons, etc.
* Make the basket fit the person receiving it. If they like the color red, use red for the bow and some of the gifts if possible. If you are making it for a certain room, match the basket to the room colors. If someone collects things (like snowmen, scarecrows, fairies, etc.), put a collectible in their basket. Be creative and take time to think about the person receiving the basket.
*Generic baskets can be done as well for door prizes. Just make them geared towards the one having the event. For example, if it is a youth event, put some candy, a t-shirt, a youth devotional, etc.
