Brownie Mix Gift Jars

This year, my family decided to have a homemade Christmas. We are giving each other homemade gifts. I’ve always loved the cookies in a jar at craft shows. If you love the idea of having homemade brownies with little effort, this is for you.

Things You Need:
1 Quart Mason Jars
Material
Cotton Balls
1 ¼ cups all purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
¾ cup packed brown sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2/3 cup cocoa powder

Step 1

Layer your ingredients in the mason jar. You can start with the darkest ingredient and layer to the lightest or start with the white ingredients and end with the cocoa.

Step 2

Decorating the lid can be as elaborate or as simple as you want. You can glue cotton to the jar lid and cover with pretty material. Put the ring on the material and screw onto the jar.

Step 3

Use an index card to type out the ingredients and the following directions:

¾ cup butter
3 eggs
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
1 jar of brownie mix

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees and grease 13×9 inch pan.
2. Beat the butter in bowl until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla.  Add brownie mix to butter mixture and stir until mixed well.
3. Spread batter evenly in pan. Bake 20-25 minutes or until done. Do not over bake. Makes 2 dozen brownies.

* Punch a hole in one corner of the index card. Tie a ribbon around the lid of your jar and through the punched hole.

TIPS AND WARNINGS:

1. You can add walnuts, almonds or peanuts to the top of your jar mixture. If you plan for this to be a gift, be sure to check for peanut allergies.
2. You can hot glue the cotton onto the lid or you can use Aleene’s Tacky Glue. It may be a good idea to glue your ribbon on as well.
3. Your kids will enjoy helping to make these gifts for teachers and grandparents.
