Brick Snowman
A brick snowman is a great craft to make and give as a present. They are easy to make and look great inside or outside. They work great as doorstops too!
SUPPLIES:
Brick (without holes)
White Craft Paint
Black Craft Paint
Yarn
Cardboard
Fabric, Stiff Ribbon or Felt
Scissors
Black and Orange Permanent Markers
Blue, Green or Brown Permanent Markers (optional)
Craft Glue (Aleene’s works well)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Wash a brick and let dry completely.
2. Once dry, paint the whole brick white and set aside to dry.
3. Cut a piece of cardboard about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide, and long enough to wrap around the brick. Tape the card board around the brick but not to the brick (should be loose enough to slide off easily). Slide cardboard off so you can make the hat.
4. Cut your yarn into strips of five (5) inches each. Fold your piece of yarn in half. Wrap it around the cardboard tucking it into the yarn loop and pulling up. Continue until the cardboard is covered and you have yarn sticking up from the same edge of the cardboard.
5. With a piece of yarn or a rubber band, gather the yarn that is sticking up, and tie (or wrap with the rubber band) them together forming the pom-pom. You hat is complete and should slide onto your brick easily.
6. Now decorate your snowman. You can use paint to draw a face, nose and mouth or you can use permanent markers. You can use Big Wiggly eyes (found in any craft store or Walmart) by just gluing them into place. It may take a minute or so for the glue to dry enough to continue working on the face.
7. You can make the scarf out of fabric or stiff ribbon by cutting a strip long enough and thick enough to go around your snowman. Just tie it around the brick just below the face.
8. Felt can be used for the scarf but I find it doesn’t wrap and tie as easily as the ribbon or material. You can also cut shapes out of the felt for the eyes, nose and mouth. Just glue them on with the craft glue.
* You can also use the felt to decorate the scarf if you use a plain material.
