Blue Jean Purse
Blue Jean Purses are really hot right now with pre-teens and teens. This is a great way to save money on a hot item for your daughter. Do they have a favorite pair of jeans that got to short so you made them into cut-offs? Or maybe their favorite jeans got stained and you cut them off into shorts. Whatever the case, I’m sure you have a pair of old blue jeans somewhere you can use for this project.
Things You Need:
Cut-off Jeans (the legs)
Thread
Unwanted Sash, Rope Belt, Scarf, etc. (optional)
Button or bead
Step 1
Turn the leg of the cut-off pant inside out. Make sure it is even all the way around. Pin the pant leg in place. Sew straight across the pinned area. Cut off the excess jeans leaving no more than 1/2 inch of material for the bottom of the purse. Sew a 1/2 cuff around the top edge of your purse.
Step 2
To make a strap for your purse, use the sash/belt/scarf. Sew your strap on firmly. To maximize the contact between purse and handle, use an “X” on each side of the strap.
Step 3
To close the purse, Sew on a button on one side and a loop on the other side. Attach the button and loop in the center of their side of the purse.
Step 4
Be creative and add a fringe to the bottom of the purse. Add beads or ribbon to the purse. Add puffy paint or iron-ons.
TIPS AND WARNINGS:
1. Because this project is so simple, you can finish a purse in a few hours.
2. You can give the purse a flat (wide) bottom. Use an extra piece of denim and using a zig-zag stitch, attach the extra denim to one end of the pant leg instead of sewing the leg closed. The zig-zag stitch will help prevent fraying.
